I have a .asf file that I can not play. Should this work in Windows Media Player or Real Player??
I only have the original Media Player that came with my Win 98 system. My Real Player is version 6.05.27
Thanks for any help.

ASF files are streaming files. I don't think that they can be played off line. I think if you inspect that file you will find that it's only a few bytes long and is just a pointer.

.asf is a Microsoft Streaming file or Stratagraphic Data or a Lotus Screen Font or APL*Plus/PC APC Shared file. First you have to find out which one it is.

Download Windows Media Player 7 from Microsoft Windows Media page :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/

Try IrfanViewer at this site:http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9227474/english.htm
It will do everything. Great!!!

Media player 7 seems buggy for many win98 users- think it may be tailored for win ME, I'd advise against getting it..

you can play asf files in windows media player. i do so all the time. and no, they are not pointers, my asf files are hundreds of megabytes long (they are full-length movies in my case)

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate the thoughts.
