hi...
ok now please read this carefully b4 you answer the question...
I am trying to install windows 95 b or windows 98 se onto a laptop..
now the problem is it will NOT boot from the cd.. i dont know why..
Yes i have tried to make boot disks from www.bootdisk. com , i have tried the 95a ,95b ,98 se, 6.22 dos.. ive tried them all...all i get is a message "remove disk or other media. Press any key to restart"..
now you are thinking the bios is set wrong...no it is set to boot from cd then fdd them hdd..
i have also tried it with fdd first on every combination of boot disc..i have tried to boot directly from 98 se cd...just goes past that and continues to boot normally...i have tried to make a boot disc directly from the cd...im not exactly sure if i did it right but i copied the setup thingy from the 95 and 98 files respectivly and i still get the remove disk msg..
ok now is where you have to pay attention..
if i use a dos boot disc i made from xp...it will boot to dos..but wen i type d:
or anytghing like that it says incorect drive...in other words it says the drive doesent exist????
ok now you are thinking the cd rom doesent work...wrong again because if i put in a windows 2000 cd it will bring up the message press any key to boot from cd and it starts to load windows 2000 with out a problem..so the cd rom works fine...and to prove this to my self i went ahead and installed 2000 just to see and it worked ...but it is way to slow to use so this is why im trying to install 95 or 98 it still has 2000 on it btw...
ok so what am i missing here ...why the hell cant i install a simple O/S??
just to throw a cat amongst the pigions...i also have a old 98 first edition cd that came bundled with a HP and if i put that in the drive it detects that and tryes to load that ...only to the point where it realises its not the orriginall hp machine the disk came with and shuts down...sohow do i get it to work...
just so u dont have to ask...its a Digital HiNote VP.Pentium MMX 166 with 32mb ram and a 2.1 gig hdd..
ok how do i put this os on and get rid of win 2000...
thanks in advance...
its a change i know...but there is a simple answer somewhere ,i just need you to tell me ...lol thankyou....
Oz

Hi Oz, hello everyone,

When you downloaded the bootdisk did you save them directly to the floppy?

Download the bootdisk to the computer.
Insert a blank floppy and click on the downloaded file.
This will extract the necessary files to the floppy making it a bootable disk.

Restart the computer with the boot disk.

Good Day!
Mesich

Nope ..
Double click the shortcut you've saved and it will execute a program that makes the required bootdisk.

Hi Oz, Don, hello everyone,

No reason to feel stupid, it's actually a common problem. You were smart enough to ask.

Happy computing.

Good Day!
Mesich
