Good day. Here's the situation. I recently bought a server which was installed Windows NT 5.0 by the manufacturer. The problem is that I can't install windows 98. It gives a message saying something like 'operating system is currently unsupported by windows. Please contact dealer for further details'.

Here are the details about my computer:-

>DELL POWEREDGE 2400 WORKGROUP SERVER
>512KB internal L2 cache/100Mhz
>2GB 100Mhz SDRAM With ECC
>1TB LVD SCSI HARD DRIVE
>3.5" 1.44MB Diskette drive
>Standard Intel Pro+ NIC
>Intergrated Ultra2/LVD and Ultra/Narrow SCSI Controllers
>40X Max Variable SCSI CD-ROM DRIVE
>20X CD-READER 4X CD-REWRITER Sony CD-ReWritable Drive
>Standard Openview Network Node Manager S.E

Well any idea? Guess I've bought a wrong computer to be used at home.

Ok, I really don't know why you'd want to insult a good machine by putting consumer windows or any M§ os on it, but perhaps this will help. Right now the box's file system is NTFS, however win32 doesn't have the faintest idea what that is, so you need to first repartition to FAT32 or FAT16. The easiest way to do that is to go out and buy Partition Magic and use that to repartition and reformat. Then install windows.

ps. If you really don't want that machine, I'll gladly take it off your hands for ya.

You don't need to buy PM...you can simply run thru the first part of the NT install (The blue screen section) and delete the partion and create as FAT32...that'll save ya some dough... :)
