Boot off the Win98 boot floppy, then at the A:\> prompt, type FDISK /MBR, then press Enter.

To install Win98 over Win95 without formatting, you will have to rename WIN.COM. If you don't, you will NOT be able to install 98. Boot into 95, find all WIN.COM files & rename them WIN.OLD, then shutdown. At this point, you will no longer be able to boot into Win95. Is your Win98 CD bootable? If it is, just boot off it & install. If it's not, you'll have to boot off the Win98 boot floppy to start the installation.

Did you by chance have a drive overlay installed on the drive? If so you would have gotten a brief mesasge on the screen, somethiing like 'EZ bios loaded, press CTRL to boot from floppy' when booting up.

The overlay needs to be loaded in order to give you access to the partition. If you boot directly from the floppy or cd without it loading you won't be able to do anything. If that's the case, since you fiddled with the MBR you may have lost the overlay info
