how do i install a display driver which i have downloaded? drag and drop? im computer stupid! currently running 16color mode - want it back to my 256 color : please help!

The file you downloaded may need to be extracted. If it's zip file you'll need something like winzip. If it's an exe file it could be a self extracting file. In either case you'll need to remember which folder you extracted it to.
The other case is that it's an exe file that, when run, will install the drivers on it's own. In that case all you need to do is run the file and then reboot when instructed.
Otherwise, once the file is extracted, go to control panel--system--device manager and click on 'display adapter' and, when it opens, click on the adapter it lists. When the next page comes up, click on 'driver', then 'update driver'. When it asks where to find the driver, browse to the folder with the downloaded files. There may be folder within that one also, it just depends on how they configured their update. If so look for a 'drivers' or 'win95' folder. The OS is looking for a .inf file. When you find the correct folder, click 'OK' or 'next' or whatever it is that causes the process to continue. Then reboot when instructed.

Sarah,
Tell us what display driver you downloaded, and from where you downloaded it. Be as specific as you can.
From there, will help you follow DAVEINCAPS instructions. ;-)
