Every time I boot up my computer I get an annoying message saying:
No ISDN devices were found. Please install an ISDN device and run the configuration wizard again.
To my understanding, an ISDN device is one with which to access the internet. I believe I began seeing this message after having uninstalled a certain modem. Later I installed another modem and now my internet access is fine, but this message persists. What can I do to rid myself of this nuisance?

look in programs, startup
or go to run, type in msconfig, in there, open startup, see if its listed there. uncheck and reboot

Did you install an external modem?
If not, and expanding on response #1, the Cfgwiz32.exe program might be set to launch each time Windows boots.
Click Start>Run, and type: MSConfig in the box before clicking OK.
Choose the Startup tab and look for a Cfgwiz32.exe entry or any other entry that looks like it may be ISDN-related.
Remove the check mark from any such entry by clicking the checkbox, click Apply, and click OK.
Post back.

I tried the suggestions mentioned above but did not find a Cfgwiz32.exe entry or any other entry that seemed to be ISDN-related.
Perhaps a more detailed description of the situation might help the troubleshooting:
At first my computer was equiped with a regular 56k modem. Later on, I got a high speed USB modem. This did not work well for me so I uninstalled it and got another high speed modem that is connected to the computer using an ethernet card. The latter works well and I still have the regular modem installed (I have not experienced any trouble with this arrangement). The problem surfaced soon after I got rid or the USB modem. Since then, I have been getting the message about no ISDN device being found. Hope this helps.

ISDN
(Integrated Services Digital Network) An international telecommunications standard for providing a digital service from the customer's premises to the dial-up telephone network. ISDN turns one existing wire pair into two channels and four wire pairs into 23 channels for the delivery of voice, data or video. Unlike an analog modem, which converts digital signals into an equivalency in audio frequencies, ISDN deals only with digital transmission. Analog telephones and fax machines are used over ISDN lines, but their signals are converted into digital by the ISDN modem.ISDN uses 64 Kbps circuit-switched channels, called "B channels" (bearer channels) to carry voice and data. It uses a separate D channel (delta channel) for control signals. The D channel signals the carrier's voice switch to make calls, put them on hold and activate features such as conference calling and call forwarding. It also receives information about incoming calls, suchas the identity of the caller. Since the D channel connects directly to the telephone system's SS7 signaling network, ISDN calls are dialed much faster than regular telephone calls.

There might be some other entry in msconfig related to the problem.
To check things out, suggest the following:
-Click Start>Run, enter: msinfo32
-The Microsoft System Information window appears.
-In the left side pane, click on the (+) of Software Environment to expand it, and then select Startup Programs. A list of all these appears on the right side pane.
-On the menu bar, click: Edit>Select All to highlight the entries on the right pane, and then click: Edit>Copy.Post them here, and lets see what is there.

OK, here we are:
ZoneAlarm Common Startup Group "C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zonealarm.exe"
run Win.ini hpfsched
ScanRegistry Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\scanregw.exe /autorun
TaskMonitor Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\taskmon.exe
SystemTray Registry (Machine Run) SysTray.exe
LoadPowerProfile Registry (Machine Run) Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme
AudioHQ Registry (Machine Run) C:\Program Files\Creative\SBLive\AudioHQ\AHQTB.exe
AtiCwd32 Registry (Machine Run) Aticwd32.exe
AtiKey Registry (Machine Run) Atitask.exe
Onjscree Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\onjscree.exe
internat.exe Registry (Machine Run) internat.exe
QD FastAndSafe Registry (Machine Run) C:\PROGRAM FILES\NORTON SYSTEMWORKS\NORTON CLEANSWEEP\QDCSFS.exe /scheduler
TkBellExe Registry (Machine Run) "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
TrueVector Registry (Machine Service) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ZONELABS\VSMON.exe -service

Just a guess!
Try unselecting these two guys in msconfig:Onjscree Registry (Machine Run) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\onjscree.exe
internat.exe Registry (Machine Run) internat.exe

Wow! What a guess! I did what you suggested and now that message doesn't come any more. Turns out the culprit was that onjscree.exe. Internat.exe (I believe it stands for international) allows me to use different keyboard layouts, so I reselected that option later. Thanks for the help!

You're welcome John.
I think I should go to Las Vegas today. :-)
Thanks for posting back with the solution.

Good show!! ;-)
Glad the problem is solved.
Posting those Startup Programs and letting someone take a gander does the trick a lot of times.
