How to get monitor working?

I just bought an older computer on ebay and today i tried to install windows 98 on it. When I hooked up a monitor to the video card inside nothing happened when i booted up. I tried a different card with the same result...How can I load a video driver if i cant see anything?! thanks for any help.

You may have a bad system board, processor or memory. When the system turns on listen for any beep codes. Then find the company that made the bios, and check their website to identify the error. Always take caution when buying computers from ebay.
If you don't get a beep, then the system is not running. It could be a bad motherboard, Cpu or a defective device that is attached to the motherboard causing it (the motherboard) to fail. You can try disconnecting all the drives and remove all the cards except the video card. Then see if you get a beep and display.
You do not need to install a video driver for basic operations..
