Subject: How to erase Content Advisor password
Comment:
I am using Windows 98 and IE5.0. When I click to run IE, message says "Please check your content advisor settings for missing information" and I will be unable to connect to any site. When I go to Tools, Internet Options, Content and click at settings, I am prompt for the supervisor password - and I do not know the password. I tried reinstalling MS office but it don't help. Any way to remove the password ? Tried removing *.pwl - but no help.

Thanks
SK

Quit Internet Explorer.

Check your Windows\System folder to see if a Ratings.pol file exists. Do this by going to Start | Search (or Find) | Files or Folders | type in "ratings.pol"

If there is a Ratings.pol file, rename it to Ratings.old. by right clicking on the file and rename. There may not be a Ratings.pol file in the Windows\System folder. (If there is no Ratings.pol file, skip to "click the content tab".

Start Internet Explorer, click Cancel to close the error message, and then click Internet Options on the Tools menu.

Click the Content tab, and then click Settings in the Content Advisor area.

Type the Supervisor password, (just press ok if you want no password) and then click OK.

Choose the ratings options that meet your needs, and then click OK.

When you restart Internet Explorer, it should all be fixed.

How to Remove the Content Advisor Password
in Internet Explorer

How to Remove Content Advisor Password in Internet Explorer
The following steps will remove any password set in the Internet Explorer Content Advisor and allow you to reset the program to its original state.

1) Click on Start and choose Run.

2) Type in RegEdit and select OK.

3) Now click on the little plus sign to the left of H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

4) Continue to drill down, always clicking on the plus sign at the left of the named key, through Software, Microsoft, Windows, Current Version and Policies.

5) Now click on the Ratings folder.

6) In the right pane of the RegEdit window, you'll see an icon called Key. Click on it and press Delete.

7) Next, choose Registry and then Exit to exit RegEdit. You've just deleted your original Content Advisor password.

8) Restart the computer and run Internet Explorer again.

9) Choose View and then Internet Options (or Options for version 3.x)

10) Click on the Content tab and click on Disable. When asked for a password, don't enter anything; just click on OK. This will disable Content Advisor because there's no longer a password.
