How to edit eps files for free

Comment:

I need to select parts of an eps file and save
them as separate eps files. I don't want to
convert to bitmap formats first because then I
lose font-resolution independence. Irfan View
only views eps preview images. Is anything
available at all to help do this?

EPS is Encapsulated Post Script. You may be able to edit it with MS Word.
