How to edit Autoexec.bat

Comment:
I recently installed a shareware program that inserted a line into Autoexec.bat. Even after uninstalling the program the line still exists. Unchecking the box in Autoexec.bat for this line doesn't help. It is still there when the computer is booting. The line is "Set Path=C\Progra~1\Xfilez~1\wmatoo~1;%..." w/out the quotation marks. How do I edit the Autoexec.bat to remove this line?
Doing a find on Autoexec.bat shows it residing on the C root directory. With hidden files enabled I cannot see it. Trying to open it from Find files and folders it attempts to open a home publishing program.
HELP!! Please try to keep instructions as simple as possible.

For win98 : choose "RUN" type "msconfig" enter: or you can "run" "sysedit" there you will find your autoexec.bat and "edit"

Thanks fork-boy.
I did that before posting the message. When I highlight the file and click edit the line is replaced with an empty text box. I guess this is to rename the line. I want to remove it completly, not rename it. How do I remove the line so that it is gone forever?

OK. I figured out how to open autoexec.bat in Notepad, but the offensive line is not there. All the other lines show up, but the one I want to remove is not there. But it continues to appear in msconfig/autoexec and I can see it when the computer is booting.

You can edit Autoexec.bat with Notepad. Bring up Notepad, browse 'til you show the path to autoexec.bat. Open it and you can delete the line.It will probably be under the root of C (C:autoexec.bat)
