Hi,
How does one normally decide on the size of a partition? I have a 20GB hard drive that I am planning to divide into 3 partitions with Win98 installed. For example, one for normal programs, downloads and games. Any suggestion is appreciated.
Thanks!

For the reasons above I woludn't do partitions on my HD. I would just make a folders. Advantages are, that you will not limite your space for particular programs.
But if you want partitions - I wolud leave half [10 GB] for C drive [your "normal programs"] and then 5GB and 5 GB for the rest. But you must decide what will be larger - games, or other programs or downloads - than divide HD according to size. decision is yours.

Hey,
I have to disagree....
Partitioning is a VERY good idea.
Not only for organisational reasons but also because if Windows was ever to screw up (and how often does that happen !!!! hehe) you could simply format the C: windows partition and reinstall without having to reinstall the rest of your downloads, and software.
Personally, I would if I were you create a Windows partition of 2Gb -- because some programs insist you install on this partition and then through personal choice decide the size of the other two partitions....
Games take up a lot of space - more than downloads....
But do you download more programs than you have games ????
If you need any more help let me know....

i would only partition if you are planning on running dual os's in the future...i find one partition eiaser. but its up to you, i dont think i make 3 though, limit your partitions to 2. Greg
