Does anyone know how to remove features from Windows AND/OR IE?
For instance, when you go to a public library they will have Windows running and you can browse the internet with IE but some features have been "eliminated". Features like "Favorites" or the "Run" option on the "Start" menu are just not there!
Also, things like the three-finger salute will not work. What gives? How is this type of thing accomplished? Is it a special version of Windows or can some of these things be "turned off" with the usual version?
Thanks,
bulloney

They are registry teaks, that can either be done manually or through the use of specialized programs.
Go here to learn more abot what I'm talking about:

I'm a computer tech at a library, and you're the reason we put the blocks on. :)
Most libraries run software or scripts to do this stuff. It's not a special version of Windows or anything like that. There's certain keystrokes and/or passwords that you need to know to disable the software.

Lisa, you couldn't be more wrong, it pains me that I can't find a decent IT job and people like you still have yours(if you are actually any sort of tech, which I would suspect is a lie). The guy didn't say he wanted to circumvent anything, he just wants to know how to change those settings himself. Maybe he is trying to eliminate options on a public machine of his own.
The settings you want are actually stored in the registry, but the easiest way to edit them is by clicking start - run - gpedit.msc
This runs microsofts group policy editor, but it may not be available on all versions of XP. I believe the <nobr><a class="iAs" style="border-bottom:darkgreen 1px solid;text-decoration:underline;color:darkgreen;background-color:transparent;" href="http://itxt.vibrantmedia.com/al.asp?ipid=7&cc=us&cf=1&ai=7666543&di=125423&ts=20031209215448" target="_blank" oncontextmenu="return false;" onmouseover="kwE(event,125423);" onmouseout="kwL(event);" onmousemove="kwM(125423);">microsoft</nobr> management console which is under administrative tools I believe can be used to pull up the policy editor, you just have to add it as an option.
