Hmmmm - Let's see what comes back...

a.) How much in total
b.) How is it divided up

It's just that I've been in so many arguments over this - and I finally found the original statement published by MS...

the operating system can adress far more memory than most computer systems can. there are bottle-necks in the hardware configuration that limit the amount of ram that can be used at one time. so the way i understand it;the chain is only as strong as the weakest link;the system will run no faster with twice the amount of ram as the bottle-neck limit figure. what da ya think?

Would you believe you're all wrong - (and I can point you to the technical document that states it.)

The OS can address up to 4 Gigs (it's truly a 32 bit OS - 2 to the power of 32 is: 4 Gig)

Each 32 bit application can address up to 2 Gigs of memory.

By the way the document was published by Microsoft, just as the articles posted above were. Interesting sh--, no wonder we all have different opinions.

This is not the technical document I referd to above - but, in perusing the KB for another problem I found another interesting reference to it.

If you want to see it graphically, see this link and scroll to Memory Paging.
