I want to uninstall windows, and then reload it. I have Windows 98SE. I want to clear everything out and start over fresh.
How do I do this? I can't see any program links in the install/uninstall program

You have two options...format your hard drive, lose everything, & start fresh...or just reinstall Windows over itself. The 2nd option has little risk involved, but it may not repair a problem...then again, it may...& that will save you the hours of software installations (drivers, programs, product updates, etc) that you'll be facing if you format/install.

You can Uninstall Windows98 SE and go back to the previous Operating System only if you have upgraded your Operating system from Win98/Win95/MS DOS and you have saved the uninstall Information during Win98SE setup and the folders holding the Uninstall Files have not been deleted or damaged or your hard disk was not compressed or converted to the FAT32 file system after you installed Windows 98 SE. If you have not upgraded from an older OS , your only option to start afresh is Reformat and Reinstall.

Before making the very important decision to FORMAT the HDD, make sure you have saved all important data and especially you have all the Drivers for the hardware such as Video Card, Sound Card, Modem , NIC in appropriate media to Reinstall after the OS is installed.

Lack of Device Drivers is the most common cause of frustration after Reformat& Reinstall. Another important issue is the failure to save ISP/email/Newsgroup Setup information BEFORE starting the Reformat & Reinsrtall.

Hi y'all,

If you can't remember,if you saved files, see if you have a file named "winundo.dat" I think that's the backup for the earlier version of windows..If so you can do as MaadhuriMN suggested..Go back to the 4.0 version...

Some reading info if you reinstall windows..

So you want to start all over with a Nice Clean Hard Drive and FORMAT it!

Hi y'all

During the upgrade from an earlier version of windows 98, you have the option of saving your old system files. If you save your system files, you can uninstall windows 98 and restore your earlier version of windows...

1. Click Start,point to Settings,click control panel,and then double click Add/remove.
2. On the install/uninstall tab, click Uninstall windows 98, and then click Add/remove.
3. Click Yes, and then click Yes again.
Your hard drive is checked for errors.
4. After the disk check is complete, click Yes to continue.
Your computer restarts, and your previous version of windows is restored.
5. Remove any floppy disks, and then press enter when prompted.
Your previous version of windows starts..
