In the 'start' => 'find' menu, how do you remove items from here? Does anyone know where this value is in the registry? Oh yeah, I'm running Win98se.

In the Registry, at:
My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Doc Find Spec MRU
and
My Computer\HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Explorer\Doc Find Spec MRU
They CAN be removed manually from there, but it is a simpler(?) solution to clear "Most Recently Used" items on every Windows boot if you use any of a variety of "tweak' programs (Tweak UI, Xteq X-Setup, Winhacker, etc.).

You can also right click on the task bar (grey bar between the clock and the start button) and left click on properties. Click on the Start Menu Programs tab, and hit the clear button.
Be advised, though, that this will also clear out the old items in the RUN box, as well as the recent documents in the Start-Documents section!

I think you guys misunderstood my question, I wasn't referring to the 'documents' folder in the start menu which shows previously viewed items, but to 'find.' Under find it list 'files or folders', 'computer', 'on the internet', etc. I have installed a few programs that have added things to that menu which I wish to remove, does anyone know where it is at?

If you're getting results to a "Find" then the files and folders are still on the machine.
Just highlight the one you want gone, and press the Delete key. Then Yes to confirm.
Simple.

You're right, I DID misunderstand your question somewhat. In the Registry:
My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\FindExtensions
That location will itemize keys/values... probably find what you're looking for here.
Sorry about the mis-understanding earlier.

Sorry! I COMPLETELY misunderstood the question. I checked out that registry key. Way cool!
Thanks, AA!!

Sorry, Jennifer, if I'm late in responding to your question. The answer is... well, unfortunately, that one is not so simple as a single Registry key. Rats! Many of those entries are accomplished using different methods, and so there isn't a simple location to "tweak"... sorry!
If you want, email me with your particular concerns...
