how do you open up att1.unk files???????

a friend has been sending me attachments with emails but these attachments are always called "att1.unk"
why is this happening and how can i open them. they all are few hundred kb's and im sure carry the information but i just cant opne them up.

These attachments are sent from users of a Microsoft email system. The att1.unk file is received by Notes if the original message was transmitted with MIME encoding. The winmail.dat file is received if the Microsoft email system UUEncodes the message.
