Subject: How Do I update video card drivers?
Comment:

Hey all.
I've been puzzling over this for quite some time. Peniii 800eb, 128ram, win98se, geforce2gts/pro.
I went to nvidia's support center and d/l their new detonator 3 drivers, which are supposed to be version 6.16 or what have u.
When d/l completed, i took the liberty to uninstall the previous old nvidia drivers by removing them thru system>>device manager.
Then i clicked on the detonator 3 installer.
Files were installed okay, rebooted system.
However, when i went to check what version drivers i had, it read "4.12.01.0650"

I don't know if anyone else out there is a geforce2 card owner, but is this the correct updated version of the driver after installing detonator 3? Shouldn't the driver be "6.16" or "6.50" or something, instead of 4.12.blah blah?

Am i missing something? Or did i not update it correctly?

Your help would be most appreciated.
Thanks

the file numbers don't always match up with
the release numbers. for instance when I
upgraded sb live the driver numbers were higher
then the previous drivers ,but didn,t match
the update numbers. if that makes any sense.
and there are times when the files listed don't change untill rebooting.

it should have updated the drivers this way, but when updating drivers , do this through SYSTEM DEVICE MANAGER, in control panel double click or select the the item and hit properties, under the drivers tab, hit update driver and point it to the directroy of your download or , if your drivers are the updated version it will let you know, if not it will install the newest drivers for it... good luck
