Well, do you have that backup copy or do you want to use the backup Windows automatically stored for you? If so, you'll need to reboot into DOS mode, choose Command Prompt Only option and type scanreg /restore in command line. Pick the copy of backup you want to use... HTH

You didn't say what operating system you are using. Try one of these:
Restoring the Registry in Windows 95
To Restore the Registry:Click the Start button, and then select Shut Down.
Click Restart The Computer in MS-DOS Mode, and then click Yes.
Change to the Windows directory. For example, if the Windows directory is C:\Windows, enter cd c:\windows
Type the following commands, pressing Enter or Return after each line.
(system.da0 and user.da0 contain the number zero).
attrib -h -r -s system.dat
attrib -h -r -s system.da0
copy system.da0 system.dat
attrib -h -r -s user.dat
attrib -h -r -s user.da0
copy user.da0 user.dat
attrib +r +a +s +h system.dat
attrib +r +a +s +h user.dat
attrib +r +a +s +h user.da0
attrib +r +a +s +h system.da0
Restart the computer.
Note: Following this procedure will restore the registry to its state when the computer was last started successfully. To restore the registry in Microsoft Windows 98 do this:
Restart the computer to MS-DOS mode. This can be done by choosing Command Prompt Only on boot or by clicking Start, Shut Down, Restart the Computer in MS-DOS mode and clicking "yes" when prompted.
Type:
scanreg /restore
Press enter.
Restart your computer. These steps will restore your registry to its state when you last successfully started your computer.
Scanreg actually saves the last three successful Win98 starts and gives you a choice by date of which one you want to restore
