First you either need a boot disk or an OS (Operating System) on your drive that works before you can format it.

Tell me what OS you have on your system, if you have a boot disk OR if the drive has NEVER been formatted - email me and I'll give you detailed directions. Its very easy to format a drive, problem is knowing what your setup is first because there are different ways you can do it.

-later.

I have a 233mhz mmx pentium, I was reasonably happy with the speed it was operating at, considering I had adobe 5 and office 97 plus corel 7 and 8 on my system, plus a host of other programs, I went to delete some of the programs I no longer used and some how deleted files needed to run my system eventually I reinstalled win 98 but now my system lacks speed badly, I would like to know how to format my hard drive and start from scratch again as it is running like a one legged man at present if you get this could you help me out please?

I have a custom built system and would like to reformat the hard drive. Currently Win. 98 is loaded. I am also interested in saving my email address and my interenet address so I do not have to reload that software or is that something not to worry about. I would appreciate a step by step instructions if possible since I am have not attempted someting like this before and am kind of nervous. thankyou

I am attempting to reformat my hard drive. I have windows 98 installed and when I click on My Computer and then Drive C, pull down menu, and click on format, I get the response: Windows cannot format because it contains files in use by Windows. Where do I go from here?

I'm having trouble with this new system and I would like to wipe the hardrive and re-install Windows98. I would also like to make a back up of my registry after reformatting. I want to make this copy before I get way down the road. My system is an Athlon and have been having many problems with 98 locking up and the video freezing on me. I really need to get this done as I'm disabled and depend on my computer to support my family!
