How Do I Recover Word doc.??????

I saved a large word file and reopened it. The computer crashed and now when I try to open it all I see is a greyed out blank page. If I right click on the file and "open with notepad" I can see it but it seems full of obscure symbols. How can I recover this file. Please help, Im desperate, this is an essay (13 pages) I must have

perhaps try with a copy from the worlpad and a paste on world.

Try opening it in WordPad as suggested. If it's still a mess then I'm afraid the only thing you can do is save it from WordPad with a new name then edit out the mess.

E-mail a copy of the mess to someone who has the same version of word as you have (or Lotus) and see if they can open it. I have opened a corrupt Acrobat file and a message showed indicating it was being repaired. It may not be the text that is corrupt but another feature of Word that another program (Lotus) can ignore.
Just an idea.
