i have an 80 gig drive and i think its true if its over 64 gig it reads it as 10 gig
do i have to move jumper on the drive to 32 gig setting?

As long as the bios see the drive correctly you don't need to mess with the jumpers.
You can download the fdisk update and run it. Then copy the new fdisk to your bootdisk. You can also use the ME version of fdisk. Then partition the drive with the new version.

I have an 80 GB drive with Win98SE on it. How it got there was like this: I got a Western Digital WD800, downloaded the software from WD (Data Lifeguard etc) and formatted the disk with it (into six partitions - four 10s and two 20s). Then did a straight disk to disk copy from the old 20 GB drive for each partition. Worked like a charm and booted up immediately. I think all disk manufacturers have this kind of software available so it's worth a try.

Sure - we all are
We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true

more likely a knackered drive ?
try the DOS version of KILLDISK to zero the drive:
http://www.killdsik.com
you need a self-extracting/creating WinME boot floppy:
http://spock.uccs.edu/pub/bootdisks/bootme.exe

ill try that- so far it says"remove other media press any key to restart"
then win98 one works if i use it

Use the Ultimate Boot CD...boot off it & run the appropriate diagnostic for your brand of HDD.

fixed with system stuff downloaded from the harddrive website-which should be the first choice
all these me bootdiscs and stuff dont work
thanks for hlp

We're glad you got it fixed. Thanks for posting back.
A bootdisk with the proper commands should have worked just fine. Maybe your floppy disks or drive are bad.
