Is there a way to alter the physical DSL modem to allow faster data transfer?? I have run the internet booster programs to maximise my internet settings, but is there something that can reprogram the actual DSL modem. I had a cable modem before I moved and I could download at 150K - 200K, but since I moved DSL was the only high speed connection available and it only gets 40K. If anyone has any suggestions or web sites that I need to check out let me know and thanks in advance for taking the time to read my problem (I guess you can call this a problem)

Here is a good website full of registry tweaks for cable and DSL modems.

From my reading of DSL/cable resources, DSL (at least in the UK...) is not an exclusive 'to you only sevice...'. You are likely as not sharing 'your DSL cct.' with a few(...?) other folks - which means the overall bandwidth is noticeably reduced for each user; the more users - the slower the link... and this is very dependant on time of use...

Cable on the other hand is 'exclusive to you...' - there's no-one else on 'your' cable feed; bandwidth/performance is therefore better/more consistent.

Haven't used DSL/cable yet; just done a bit of research - in case, one day...

If my understanding is incorrect, perhaps others will correct?

actually that's backwards. cable is shared, while DSL is not.

Dsl connections still need to be shared at the Central Office. All connection on internet is shared some where.
