Subject: How do I make a partition ?
Comment:

1) I'm running W98 with a 9.6Gb disk. I want to make a partition so I can use PowerQuest's Drive Image (maybe it will do it for me?)? I don't want to buy PartitionMagic.

2) On a second system, I want to restore DOS backup files. How do I make a partition on that 2 disk (~7 and 15 GB) system so I can boot in DOS, and then restore those files?

put in your Win 98 startup disk and let it boot into dos with it. select with cdrom driver and when it loads (1 to 4 minutes to load) and when all done well make sure it is on a:\ and type in fdisk, one question. or you know what i mean, if windows is not in stalled DO NOT REPARTITION,NEVER. now just select with the cdrom drivers and when all loads juse go to your cdrom drive usually e: because it creates and secondary drive and type in (usually E:\Setup) and follow on screen instructions. if that dont work email me at Roach691@yahoo.com

also if you delete the partition you lose all the information on the harddisk

Good luck

If you don't want to buy Partition Magic there are some free 'Partition Managers' available. Do some searching and you should be able to come up with a couple. However they are very tricky to use and take a lot of work to accomplish anything.
Drive Image will not help you with any partitioning. It is strictly a backup program.
Didn't understand your post about the Dos backup.

Jan,

If you read this again:

I have many DOS backups. Windows backup will not restrte them. Therefore, I must boot with an old (6.22) version of DOS to use the restore program, but then my drives aren't recognized (I think that was the problem). Therefore I thought partitioning a DOS section would allow me to use the A and C drives to do the restore

??

if you want a regular partition you have to use fdisk utilitiy and it will wipe out your whole drive and you have to reinstall. search microsoft knowlege base for fdisk and it will tell all.

if you want to repeir dos files useing restore? i see! you have used dos backup and want to restore your compressed? backups but you upgraded and lost the program- right!
in my interpretation unless you have all the right versions of msbackup- patches they will not not restore.

i think its psooble to get the file from microsoft download center - i think they have a "file pack" which gives you all the files you need.

I will say agin. i don not believe it will work unless you hsave the excat verison of back up you had when you made them. 6.2 not 6.22 etc. then i think you will have to "rebuild" the dadtbase as you probaly don't have the index anynmore. it is easier to restore a non compressed verion i thnik. and it may be posible to restore them if uncompressed in diffrent verisons of back up like win98- have you tryied the rebuild feature in win98- i have not used win98 backup much.

if that failes maybe one of your frineds or someone online with backup can do it for you?

make sure you rebuild or use the search whatever and i think you have to have the excat version or they will not show up.

then stop useing old ones and make them with new version!
