Just for info, on my W98SE vnetbios.vxd is in c:\windows\system

That sure is a mighty strange error message.

You should be able to extract it from your 98 cd using SFC. There may be 2 or 3 other files it wants once you get vnetbios installed. Did you recently install, uninstall or update NIC software or drivers?
