The only way I know of is to reinstall Windows. May seem drastic, but it does work. maybe someone else has a better idea??

Best of luck,
Chase

Post back the exact error message you are getting. And if there is a details button, post back the contents.

Just out of curiosity have you done a virus check at all? Viruses like to mess with that file (or any other windows\systems files).

Had similar problem. Was uninstalling Windows 98; after deleting files in dos-mode, when computer rebooted, only the Microsoft "Cloud" wallpaper came up, no icons, no task bar, just the message saying an Illegal Operation occurred in Explorer.exe at 015f:00402349. Thought I could look up those kind of errors on Microsoft's Knowledge Base but no luck. Any suggestions?
