Comment: How do I get rid of the BIOS password? The setting aren't very intuitive and I don't want to make the wrong selection.

Reply: (edit)Clear cmos jumper. If not present remove battery for minute or so replace. Record the BIOS settings you have before you execute these instructions.

Reply: (edit)I don't believe you can delete it in the bios. To the best of my knowledge it requires taking the case off and clearing a jumper on the motherboard. Your manual may provide further instructions.

Reply: (edit)To answer both questons...If you have an older motherboard you must go into the computer and get the mother board numbers(models)findout what the password secret code is to disable it. I know this because I resently had that problem on a computer that was given to me just because they could not get into it. By the way, when I got done.I gave it back to that person running and he gave me 25.00 for being honest..Thats what God does for you.Amen

Also unplug the computer for this 5 minutes otherswise you are wasting your time trying to reset the computer.LOL Some have built in batteries so now you have to look for a jumper and us it to short out the memory by crossing the opposite end usually at the battery while it is on or while turning it on.Then turn it off and back on.Reset should take place. But codes are safer.

Reply: (edit)LEAVE THE MOTHERBOARD ALONE IF YOU KNOW THE PASSWORD. Find the entry in the BIOS setup for the password, it will usually ask you for the old password first, then just press enter for the new one and enter again to confirm it. This also depends on the type machine and BIOS you have. If it's compaq, then just enter the password followed by / e.g. password/ it will clear it then. Post type of machine and Bios for more detail

Reply: (edit)I agree with Declan. Do not remove the case unless you do not know the password. If you want no password, you can do as Declan says, but just hit enter when it asks for a second password. If you do not know the password, then you'll have to remove the battery from the motherboard clips, and short the pins with a paper clip or other piece of metal. Be warned. You may fry the motherboard with this procedure.

Reply: (edit)I've said it before and I'll say it again do not short out the battery, it's a bad idea. If you have a password that only prevents you getting into setup then download a program from the internet that will retrieve it. But since the person who posted the question said "The setting aren't very intuitive and I don't want to make the wrong selection." it's sounds like he/she knows the password.

Reply: (edit)It's an AMI BIOS. 1992. Youd think clear password would clear password but it prompts me to enter a new password. I just want to be sure. Thanks peoples.
