Comment: Im using Win 98 SE, but i upgrade to win ME few month ago, and now i want to format my harddrive and install win again. Do i make a boot disk for win 98 or win me? If i just make a boot disk at control panel will it still work? becuase im going to install wind 98 se first then install ME And how do i format my harddrive? What will happen after?

Reply: (edit)I formated my computer just yesterday, here's what I did: when computer was booting I went into BIOS and make sure the floppy drive, then the hard drive loads. made boot disk copied CD driver to boot disk booted from floppy made sure CD drive worked with floppy by typing Dir D: (list should come up) typed format c: waited... (formatting wipes EVERYTHING on the drive so back up important data before) went to D: typed setup (Windows install wizard should come up)

Reply: (edit)why are you going to install 98SE then ME? If you want ME and you have the ME Upgrade not the full version then just start the ME install as you would with SE, you will be asked for verification that you have a previous full version of Windows. At this point you will be prompted to either put in the cd or disk one of your older version of windows, once it confirms you own a copy it will allow you to continue installing ME without first installing the older version and thus save you about an hour of your time and you will have a more stable install. :-)

Reply: (edit)I format my harddrive with DiskSanitizer from east-tec.com. It is a great product and very secure. First, I use it to format my harddrive, re-partition with the FDISK command, then install Win 98 from my CD-ROM drive. Next, you can install Win Me on another partition. I use this program because it is secure and leaves no traces of my old system configuration, and so I am able to install my system clean again.

Reply: (edit)One alternative for the BIOS configuration is to start your computer with a startup disk. The startup disk can be created in Control Panel> Add/remove Programs > startup disk. If you do not have a startup disk, you can create one on another computer that has Windows installed on it. The next step is to reboot your computer and it will start from the disk you've just created. Now you have a:, c: drives, and you can access the cd drive as e: Let me now if you run into any problems.

Reply: (edit)Start your computer, press the DEL key to enter the BIOS Setup, go to BIOS > Bios Features Setup > Boot Sequence and modify the Boot Sequence with the Pg Down key until it appears CDROM. Press Esc and then exit the BIOS using the Save and Exit option. The computer should start from the Windows CD. However, if the CDROM boot option does not appears in BIOS, your BIOS might not be able to boot from the CD drive. In this case, the only solution that remains is to start your computer using a boot disk. Let me now if you have any problems.
