Subject: How do I delete items from start up?
|
Comment: Hiya all, I have a small problem that I've been trying to address for some time now. I know how to disable things from my start up folder (so programs don't boot up). However, there's no options to actually delete something. In the place where you uncheck the items, in the systems configurations utility, I get duplicates of the same program. I would like to know how to remove the duplicates. For example I have RealPlayer disabled from start up twice, but they are the same program, with the same path... Both are unchecked and I would like to delete just the one of them... this happens to a lot of my programs. Another one being ICQ's detect agent thing... Any help on manually removing this problem would be great.

Reply: (edit)It wasn't that easy--I've got 5 items running at start-up & it says "Empty" in START>Programs>STARTUP. I think it is been setuped in those .Log or .cfg or what ever it is right in the C:\ where it keeps alot of boot.log & stuffs.

Reply: (edit)lol @ the previous cloning of me. I'm not talking about the deleting from the start up, I can do that fine. The duplicates are in: Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information -> Tools (tab) -> System Configuration utlity -> Start up (tab) The duplicates are there... Any ideas anyone?

Reply: (edit)You need to run Regedit. You will find the entries at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion under either the Run or RunServices keys. If you have already unselected them they will be under the Run- or RunServices- keys. Select the entry in the right window and hit DEL. Note: Since you ARE in the registry, tread carefully!!!!

Reply: (edit)It's also worth mentioning that duplicate entries like this are often the result of programs that were uninstalled properly.

Reply: (edit)Cheers it solved some problems... I haven't uninstalled any of the programs that are duplicates. What tends to happen, for example with the ICQ duplicate, is disable the ICQ net detect agent, so it doesn't load up from boot. Then whilst surfing online, I've been disconnected and the net detect agent has auto run, and then replaced itself in the start up, duplicating itself in the process... I managed to rid of the Realplayer one, but I still have two Adobe Gamma profiles, with the folders specified above being basically empty with nothing in them... Thanks anyway. :)

Reply: (edit)Download a tweaking program like ITweakU or TweakUI (tweak user interface) it allows you to uncheck all those startups or delete them along with alot of other system configurations very useful program. Available lots of places, CNet for one.
