for the partition deal
I think what you're talking about is the slave has a primary partition on it and is becoming your d:\ drive?

if you can you could partition it as and extended partition and logical drive.
that way it would take the next drive letter after your masters primary and logical drive partitions.

for fat32 windows 98 has a converter but if your talking about the slave drive you might just want to fdisk /partition it.
with large drive support or whatever it ask at the first prompt.
and then just create an extended partition and logical drive.

I hope I understood

note that fdisk would make all the data on the drive go bye bye.

the converter would be in add remove in the control panel.
windows commponents
then you'd goto the start button menu
Programs\Accessories\system tools
I believe
but that would take some time to do I believe.
and wouldn't fix the drive letter problem.

other options would be getting a ghost program to move contents of the drives from one to the other
or getting a partition and or boot up manager program like system commander
to convert/resize or even hide partitions.

Sounds more like he's already got the drive working (it already has a letter right?).

To change the drive letter, go into device manager, find the right hard drive, highlight it then click on Settings. Put a checkmark under 'Removable', then change the letter to whatever you wish. After you reboot it should have your new drive letter assigned to it. Once this is done, go into my computer, right click on the drive, and then click on format, I think the default is Fat32, so you shouldn't have to worry about specifying.

And in the future if you need help, go to the forums at www.windrivers.com, from what I've seen of this place so far, noone seems to know their ass from a hole in the ground. Why the h#ll would you fdisk a drive that already is getting assigned a letter? All the guy wants to do is change the drive letter.

Anyone here ever actually seen the inside of a computer?

gee,
I never knew windows 9x had that much control.
to change a drive letter of a fixed disk
that had pretty much already been established well before windows was even loaded.

if you can get that to work go for it.

otherwise I'd stick to a simple path
know how your system works and go with it.
don't try and spaghetti it up.

I agree with Response # 1. I have 4 partition master and 3 partition slave. My D: is the primary partiition on the slave. Thought about it for a while and then decided "Who cares, it works!"
Seen the Grand Canyon once - now that's a hole!
