Can't you place it in your recycle bin then empty it recycle bin

You can hide it by using a program called Power tools- microsoft.com

I agree with "end efectur" VERY VERY BAD IDEA, if you delete it you could be opening up a whole can of worms!! Much better idea to hide it.

I have Win95 and always thought all the icon on desktop were tacky looking so I found out you can use pole edit (you can get it off of Win95 CD) to hide the icons on the desktop. I have MS Office so I have everything on my little tool bar at the top of my screen. With auto hide on it and the taskbar, I have a very neat desktop.

You CAN'T delete it, but if you have Win98 you can hide it using Active Desktop and then in display properties, in Effects tab theres an option there to hide it.

ah yea you cannot delete it, its a registry hack you need to play with. open up REGEDIT32 (or just regedit..c ant remember) and do a searchf or MY COMPUTER or something like that then you gotta toy witht he switches. (kinda like renaming your recycle bin trick :) heh.
i warn you though, if you do anything wrogn int he regedit your computer may never boot again.. soo be careful
