Subject: How can I change name in IE5 titlebar?
Comment:

I used an AOL CD to copy the Instant Msgr prgm as a stand alone in WIN98SE. I do NOT have A.O.L. After installation My Explorer titlebar said - "Provided by A.O.L." with THEIR Logo in the upper right!
Those !$*&@ . . . I went NUTS!! They were able to change the name from Microsoft, HOW Can I change it to what I want??

To remove "provided by aol" from the title bar in internet explorer go to this link in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

And edit the window title by right clicking.

In response to "WHEW" & others:
I know AOL is agressive, but whod-a-thunk they'd stamp their name/logo systemwide on MS Explorer titlebars? In copying from the CD, I wanted to save download time from download.com's listing of InstMsgr so I can hook-up with several unfortunate friends in AOL. I was not only violated (without permission or warning) but they took credit for something they did not do. I want to be able to change the name/logo in the Registry or wherever it's stored. The new name won't say Microsoft either!

Changing the Internet Explorer Window Title (Windows 9x and NT)

This setting allows you to customize Internet Explorer by using your own window title. For example you could rename IE to 'My Browser' or anything else you like!

Open your registry and find the key below.

Create a new string value, or modify the existing value, to equal the title you would like.

Note: Delete the value of 'WindowTitle' to change the title back to the default.

(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
Window Title REG_SZ "My Browser"

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

Settings:
Key: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
Value Name: Window Title
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)

Thanks to "mamm" for detailed help, but it didn't work! Is a kicker needed to make the new registry settings work? Also, the AOL name is in Outlook Express too. I really want my own "phrase" to show in all titlebars. Thanks to "Phil" for the link. That site explained much about the icon that goes with title. I can't be the only one that's tired of seeing "-Microsoft Internet Explorer" and the Gates logo covering the WORLD.
