Comment: I had my homepage hijacked by cnet.com. After the hijacking, the options in internet options are not clickable (use current, use default, use blank)!! The ONLY way that I can find to change my homepage is to go to the registry and change the start page there. Is there someway to get my buttons back?

Reply: (edit)I'm not sure it will work, but you could try going to Tools and clicking on Reset Web Settings.

Reply: (edit)...Or, you can put a small Reg tool on your desktop, such as the one here: http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2000/2000-07-10.htm#2 . One click of that tool will restore your home page to whatever you want, after it's been hijacked. But there are more malicious ways to hijack a page, such as the one used by "PassThisOn." Pages like that actively re-set your home page even if you change it to something else, and take more work to disable. But even with those, there's help: http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2001/2001-06-07.htm#6 Above is from Langa.com newsletter. Good Luck

Reply: (edit)Hummmm.... I'm posting the solution to my own problem! Anyway, just incase anyone needs the info for future problems here is how you fix it: Here is the solution: Start>run>regedit>H_KEY_CURRENT_USERS THEN go to Software>Policies>Microsoft>Internet Explorer>Control Pannel THEN in the right hand box you will see "HOME" Right click on "HOME" and choose the option to delete. After deleting press F5 (this will refresh your registry) close and restart your browser. You DO NOT have to restart your computer. Now it will be fixed!

Reply: (edit)I do tech support for a living. I was just dealing with a caller that went to this exact page, and had the same problems. I helped her reset her homepage by searching for cnetadd and changing the homepage, but couldn't figure out how to get the homepage box & buttons ungreyed. After a bit of searching, I found help on microsoft's support page here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2fsearch%2fviewDoc.aspx%3fdocID%3dKC.Q195161%26dialogID%3d9189988%26iterationID%3d1%26sessionID%3danonymous%7c6871602 (blame micro$oft for the painfully long url) ; ) There was a key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel named 'homepage'. It's a string key, and it was set to 1. You can either clear the value and leave it or delete the key entirely, either method should ungrey the homepage box. Hope this helps! Feel free to email me if it doesn't.
