I cleared everything in "cntl-alt-del", when into MSCONFIG-startup ang unchecked everything which should leave me with just explorer running. My question is, the hard disk light still flickers (is beind accessed) when nothing is going on, Is it possible than there is some kind of program running in stealth mode? and if so, how do I find it?

Could be spyware. Or something loaded in autoexec.bat that doesn't show in msconfig such as some virus protection software.

AdAware is a pretty good, free program for finding/removing spyware/adware. You can download it at:

You can always download a firewall program. Maybe someone is trying to access your computer or a program is trying to access the internet. I use ZoneAlarm and the link is

I'm willing to bet that you have Windows managing your swapfile. When you do, it is doing periodic adjustments and preparations, during idle time.
As soon as you move the mouse or start something, the activity should stop.

Normal. And nothing to worry about.
