Subject: Hidden Apps Running |
Comment: I am running Win98SE, 192mb RAM, 333 Celeron processor - no network. Using msconfig I have only the following enabled at startup: Systray Scanreg Pop-up Stopper Zone Alarm Pro When I ctrl-alt-del after boot-up I am showing: Explorer Systray Zone Alarm Pop-up Stopper rnaapp Recently I downloaded Process Viewer 2000. This program shows all apps that are running. When I boot-up and check the apps running with PV2 I get: Systray Scanreg Pop-up Stopper Zone Alarm Pro explorer.exe kernel32.dll msgsrv32.exe tapisrv.exe mprexe.exe rnaapp.exe mmtask.exe vsmon.exe wmiexe.exe I assume (?) kernel32.dll and msgsrv32.exe are necessary to running windows, but what are the others and how can I disable them if I don't really need them running. Thanks for the assistance.

Reply: (edit)You need to have these all running with the exception of Zone Alarm and Pop-up Stopper, and scanreg if Windows is to function properly.
