I have win98se AMD 1000 MHZ, 384 MB RAM, Gforce 2 MMX sys and I have the problem that when playing games and sometimes during regular use my system hesitates. I have no clue why it does this. Could anyone help me? When I play games (Max Payne - Undying) my computer continuously hesitates. I Turn off all programs running in the back ground except the ones that must run. I also use secondchance from powerquest.

Thank you
David

Pour a cup of sugar in the case....joke

How fast of a CD-Rom drive do you have? And how often does Max Payne access the drive during game play. When was the last time you scandisked, & defragged?

And are you sure its just not Bullet Time ooozing out of the game and coming into our reality???

Is your comp. a NONAME or from one of the big manufacturers? (Dell, compaq, etc.)

If it is a NONAME, check your CPU-temperature. It might overheating or close to it, even if it does not beep....
Many poor chassis only have ONE fan, the powersupply-fan and airstreaming support over the CPU.

Solution: Try remove the cover and play.
If your problem disappears, it's a temperature issue. Install another fan or two, also check if cooling-'pasta' is pasted between the CPU-cooling-device and the CPU itself. IF not get some....

Note: If it's not the above, ther could be some other issues to check...
Is you GF2mx card a new invenstment of yours?
If it is, check you AGP-BIOS-driver....

Are you messing with the BIOS?
If so, load Default values and reboot.

I have three fans installed. It's a no name, but I do not have a cooling problem. I am playing the game direct from hard drive, but the CD ROM is 40x and a pioneer. Personally, I think it is secondchance. It is always backing up the system so maybe it's work is causing the system to lag? I think I will uninstall it and see what happens. This same problem happened with my last sys and I had goback installed. Does anyone know about this?

Check the properties of the CD.
Many CD's need to be online always.
Of the CD is shut down when not needed it have to startup and that takes time, also stalls the comp. for a few seconds.

Possible solutions:
Check the pioneers hompage for a specified driver for your CD. Perhaps they, like ASUS, have an application to set the CD at a specified speed an lock it to that speed.

Perhaps you have an older CD that runs at 12x or less. Try them for a change and see if the comp. stalls....
