Reply: (edit)I have just upgraded to MS Office 2000 Premium on a Windows 98 Machine. Starting 'Help' in Word 2000 I am able to type in a topic (in the Help wizard) as soon as I start to open one of the topics that the Wizard suggests I get: MSOHELP caused an invalid page fault in module HHCTRL.OCX at 0257:5d332a4c. Registers: EAX=c95e5f00 CS=0257 EIP=5d332a4c EFLGS=00010206 EBX=00000ab0 SS=025f ESP=0064e498 EBP=0064f540 ECX=00020000 DS=025f ESI=01bb2a60 FS=6687 EDX=01bb2a60 ES=025f EDI=0064fb48 GS=64b7 Bytes at CS:EIP: ff 50 28 8b 47 08 3d 3a fd ff ff 75 0c 53 56 e8 Stack dump: 00000ab0 000003ee 0064fb48 0064f548 000085b8 0064f594 71501e6a 0045a674 7152012f 0045a670 70bd2174 0045a654 71501f29 0045a670 80004005 0064e500 I have tried deleting that HHCTRL file, reinstalling Office 2000 and I have run 'Detect and repair' - all to no avail. Any suggestions available? Please e-mail me at alexandrc@aol.com Thank You

Reply: (edit)If you haven't figured out how to fix the HHCTRL.OCX error yet, I have a possible solution to offer. Go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/htmlhelp/download.asp to download htmlhelp.exe. This is 4.0 MB file that took about 30 minutes to download and fixed my problem! Hope this helps, Jane

Reply: (edit)Just in case I do not get back, it seems from other sources the MS Int Explorer will give you a current copy. I have IE 4.0 on machine even though I us Netscape. It can be upgraded online, click on help, to 4.1a or so and hopefully this will fix it. Will let you know, if i have not lost this link.

Reply: (edit)While waiting for 1 hr and 17 min for IE upgrade, I continued looking. There is a copy 9/12/98 up for grabs at the following web site. The language is strange, and i can not even make an intellegent guess as to what it is, BUT, it is clear that they have one new one and two older ones, Just click on the new one and it comes as a zip file I have not tried it yet, but may never get back here, so you are on your own. Reply: (edit)Well with about an hour to go on IE explor. upgrade, I found a ref to MS solution, "hhupd.exe". The jump had been changed and the changed jump had "been lost or gone away", and a search was suggested. It found some 12 items, two jumps down in one of them took me to the listing below http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/htmlhelp/localize.asp You can down load it there. Still have not been brave enough to try any as this is one of those cases where some people report sudden death to the MS inane "safe mode", that place you can not get out of, nor diagnose what is wrong, nor fix it. MS was at an all time high when they set up that winner.

Reply: (edit)Just go here. http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/c-frame.htm?931289878925#/workshop/author/htmlhelp/default.asp And click on the link that says update. Oh and crashing dude, try deleting your hh.dat -- Warning tho -- This file contains yer favorites. That hh.dat is a pesky one, so I bet that's yer problem.

Reply: (edit)I found a faster fix for the HHCTRL.OCX problem with Windows 98. Go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/c-frame.htm?931289878925#/workshop/author/htmlhelp/default.asp, and just download the HHUPD.EXE 1.22 file, then run it. Much smaller file, downloads fast, and installs the new HHCTRL.OCX even if yu don't have the HTML Help utility.

Reply: (edit)If you are using Windows 98 and get the error "Need a newer version of HHCTRL.OCX to view this file" when trying to use help, do this. Go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/htmlhelp/localize.asp Download HHUPD.exe Run it. This was quick and fixed the problem!
