I just downloaded and installed IE6 and now all my desktop icons are so distorted that I can't even tell what kind they are. the ones in my favorites folder are scrambled also. The only ones that look normal on my desktop are "My Computer" icon and the Internet Explorer "e". I already looked for some kind of patch file for this but there was none yet. What can I do? Thanks

Maybe it's the old problem of the hidden file Shelliconcache (in c:\windows) becoming corrupted.
If this is deleted it "should" re-build automatically on re-boot. However, there are machines about (like mine) which have become quite incapable of ever doing this, so I suggest you take a copy of Shelliconcache before you try this. If it's missing you get very slow desktop icon building on re-boot - I retain a copy on floppy.

Beth,
In addition to the advice above, look for TWEAKUI-download it and install it on your computer. It has a REPAIR ICONS feature.
