Help..I can't open email attachments

For a long time now, I have been unable to open email attachments. I have win98SE with IE 5.01 and Outlook Express 5. I now have a very important email attachment in PDF that I can't open. When I try to open it, it is all in gibberish. I have Adobe Reader 4.0. When I go to the Adobe Reader folder and open README, it is in gibberish. Maybe that is a clue. I don't know how to resolve this. Thanks

uninstall Adobe acrobat reader and re-install it. You can download it free at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

Uninstall by Start -> Programs -> Adobe -> Uninstall

Thanks Dave, I just did that and now it finally works. I must have had a corrupted copy before.

dear Attachments, I don't really worry too much since I run them all by InoculateIT before opening. But I still keep my fingers crossed.
