The first thing you might try is restoring a previous registry.

Start up the computer. Before the OS starts to load, start tapping F8. A menu should come up. Choose 'command prompt only'. At the c:\> prompt type scanreg/restore and enter. Choose a registry to restore with a date that precedes the problem. When it's done reboot and see what happens.

I have already try that. It seem all the file inside my registry show error after restart same to my current one. And before I use the same thing to fix my last problem but I cant seem to find the older registry. The one back in 2003. All of the new one dont seem to work. Do you know how I can find the old registry?

The only available registries would be the ones that show when you do the scanreg/restore. You might also try scanreg/fix and enter to see if that helps.

You might check this recent thread:

http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/166287.html

where uninstalling internet explorer seemed to fix that problem (although the poster later indicated heat may have been the original cause). There should also be an option to repair IE in add/remove programs.

You can get into safe mode by tapping F8 after starting the computer but before the OS starts to load. A menu should come up and you'd choose 'safe mode'. Try that and see if you can get to the safe mode desktop.

If you can get to safe mode you might try updating oleaut32.dll. This site has some links to updates. Those links are to software updates and not just the oleaut32.dll file. Apparently there is no update for just that file.

I downloaded and ran the dcon98.exe update in safe mode on my computer and it did OK. I already had a newer version of oleaut32.dll on my computer and that installation didn't replace it (probably because the dcon version wasn't newer). Of the 2 vbrun downloads listed there the sp5 version has the newest oleaut32.dll.

If you can't get to safe mode then maybe explorer.exe is corrupted. I can email that file to you if you let me know what version of 98 you have.

Hey thx for ur advice. I have try to use safemode before but seems like problem still occour in safemode as well. I will try it again tonight and see if that make it better. Also is it possible for me just delate the damage dll file thought set up setting the F8 menu. If so how do I do it? Or maybe I just uninstall explorer there. So once I gain access on my computer again I can use my friend computer to get ur file :).

You can't delete explorer.exe. Nothing will run if you do that. You could try renaming the oleaut32.dll file. That way if it turns out you need it you can always rename it back. Use F8 to get to the boot menu and choose 'command prompt only'. First type
dir c:\windows\system\oleaut32.dll and post back the date associated with the file. That will help in determining what version of the file you have. Then to rename it type ren c:\windows\system\oleaut32.dll oleaut32.old and enter. That will change the extension from dll to old so it won't run.

I can send you both files. Explorer.exe is going to be the same. I just need to know what version of windows you have. If you don't know, use F8 to get to 'command prompt only'. At the c:\> prompt type dir c:\command.com and enter. Post back the date associated with that file. That will tell me the version.

The problem with oleaut32.dll is you may have a different version than what I'm using. But I may be able to find the same version when you post back it's date.

So right now just post back the date of the oleaut32.dll file and the date of command.com.

It's also possible the problem is not with either of these 2 files.

Hey I got the result sorry for the late respond I'm currently using the computer at my local library and its pretty far away from my house :(.

Here is the result of the

Oleaut32.dll file
volume in drive c is os
volume serial number is 3d01-080b
directory of C:\windows\system
OLEAUT32.DLL 221,184 06-08-02 3:10pm
1file(s) 221,184 bytes
0dir(s) 437.52 MB free

command.com file
93,890 04-23-99 10:22pm
1 file 93,890 bytes
1 dir 437.52 MB free

And I also rename my OLEAUT.DLL to .Old and its now can able to load into the window and all stuff can finally show up but then 2x error window pops up one which is explorer missing OLEAUT.DLL and other is another eorr wich is call runDLL32 and this time its the CNSIO.DLL causing invalid page fault. Should I rename this file as well? As long I can get back online I can download the file to replace it.

Cnsio.dll seems to be associated with some adware. If you can get to the desktop in either safe or normal mode you need to run something like adaware or spybot. In the meantime it's probably OK to rename that one also.

I can't find any references to oleaut32.dll being that file size or having the corresponding date and time so it may be corrupted. Ideally you should run one of the downloads I linked to above to reinstall it. But I'll go ahead and send you the version I have. If it doesn't work you can delete it.

It should be there. Sometimes Yahoo has problems with attachments so if you don't get it I'll probably need to resend it to another address.

I included instructions in the text of the email. I'll repeat them here in case you've already deleted it:

Here it is. Unzip it with something like winzip. Unzip it to a floppy disk. Then boot up your computer and use F8 to get to the command prompt. At the c:\> prompt put the disk with oleaut32.dll in the floppy drive and type

copy a:\oleaut32.dll c:\windows\system

and enter. Then reboot and see what happens.

Adaware

Spybot

After installing them it'd be a good idea to download the latest definitions.
