Hi i just restored my computer and theres no sound on it. can somebody help me please? my chipset is VIA VT82C694X APOLLO PRO133A if that helps.

To install the driver, save any unsaved work and close all applications then click on the driver download link.
Choose the "Save File" option and save it to your folder under Windows where you file your drivers. Unzip the file. (To unzip the file right click and highlight "Extract All") Then double click on the Setup.exe file to run the installation program.
Follow the prompts and restart at the end of the installation.
Goodluck!

Sabertooth - You're pointing to the drivers for a Via audio chip - does he have one?
.....No that doesn't help.
But you do need to load the drivers for your main chipset whenever you have run Setup from scratch in order for Windows to recognize it properly - go to www.viaarena.com - see the notes about older versions being better for Win98SE etc. and download the newest of those and run it.
If the sound is on the mboard itself, go to the Acer web site and look up the drivers for your model.
If it is on a sound card, if it came with the Acer system, the drivers will be on the Acer website for your specific model.
If it didn't come with the system, unplug off the power to the case, open the case, remove the sound card and tell us whether you can find a make and model number. E.g. if it is a Creative sound card it has a CTxxxx model number on the card itself.Download the latest version of DirectX from the Microsoft site and install it to support your video and audio drivers properly.

^ can you give me a link of what to download? i dont know what your talking about on that VIA Arena site

You should probably check Acer Support first. It doesn't appear you have VIA graphics. Looks like it's either an ATI or Riva TNT2. The drivers you need should be at the Acer site. Or for the ATI drivers start here:
And for the Riva go here:

Well anyway, here's the VIA audio download page for 98 SE:
http://www.viaarena.com/default.asp...
(I don't think you included enough info to ID your specific audio chipset.)
And here's the download page from Acer's site for your model:
http://www.acersupport.com/desktop/...

This indicates you've got the VT82C686A southbridge chipset so the driver from the first line in the VIA link in #6 would be the right one. Those may be a newer version than the download from Acer's site.

Did you ever notice how David Caruso spends half his camera time hunched over like he's got a bellyache?

... I was going to ask you if there was anything good on.
Never noticed that (until now) - I get fixated on his freakish little monkeyface

I usually don't watch but it was the season premiere. I can't tell if he's an egotistical actor or an actor acting egotistical. Someone had mentioned in one of those magazines they put in Sunday papers that he always stands sideways to the camera. But there seems to be a lot more than just that. In one scene tonight he made a half turn and it looked like a dance step.

He's a funny little monkey man
Oh well - NCIS premiere tomorrow, bound to be better

Re your post #3.
You just click the red link given in post #1 and the zip file will download.
More fun after that no doubt, but that's all you have to do to get the driver.

i downloaded the link on post#1. When i tried to unzip it with winzip, it said this doesnt appear to be a valid archive if you downloaded this file, try downloading it again. I downloaded it again and it did the same thing.
whats wrong??

... so many things - oh, but regarding that file, yeah, it's a bad download - I get the same error

Try this one & see if it extracts (it did on my machine).
I can't believe a couple of driver installation is spanning two days & more..........

That's only about 98KB (way too small). You are not alone and it seems it has been reported:
SEE HEREDerekW

It should be 6.47 MB
Every link I've found goes to the same file source. It was only reported today so maybe if you wait long enough it will get fixed.

That's more like it - #17

That's gotta be one *heck* of a restore disk, considering that it doesn't seem to have any drivers on it
Glad you're all fixed up - next time though, try to leave the "Help" out of your subject line (we get it)

And now that you've become "uber efficient" with google, in the future, you should exploit it to the fullest before signaling for assistance.

There's a little tid-bit of info that would have been useful about 25 responses ago...LMAO!

Cripes, unless that restore disk was for an identical machine it's not at all surprising you had difficulties.
DerekW

... amen to all that. Heh - it's near miraculous it worked this well
