Subject: Help setting up a network |
Comment: I am trying to set up a network between my PC and my Laptop so as I can have two computers on the net at once. In the PC I have a surecom 10/100 nic and in the laptop I have a token ring PCMCIA card. When my laptop first starts up I get a message that says... Your network adapter IBM Turbo 16/4 token ring pc card 2 (0001) is not working properly. You may need to set it up again. for more info see the trouble shooter in win help... well as we all know the trouble shooter is useless.. In device manager is says this device is working properly and it all seems to be working properly but when I go into network neighbourhood and click on entire network it says unable to browes network the network is not accesible for more infomation look in help..... etc sometimes it lets me browes the entire network and I can see my computer there but i can't see the other computer that I have it connected to. Please help. Thanks Sallie

Reply: (edit)Form what you are saying it looks like the PC has an Ethernet NIC but the laptop has an IBM Token Ring NIC. Problem is that they cannot communicate with each other. They are designed for totally different types of LAN. How exactly have you linked the two macines together? The usual way is to have an Ethernet NIC in each machine and link them together via UTP cable and a Hub or Ethernet Switch.
