This is a question not for me but for my aunt. She has windows 98. She deleted 3 files that she wasnt suppose to.
windows\system\syscg32.exe, windows\system\mpldfg.exe,
windows\system\norten.exeWell We tried to run the restore using the windows 98 cd but it wont work. It goes halfway and stops and has this error.
'Application Error Call to Undefined Dynalink'She cant open any applications cause the mpldfg.exe file is missing. She has no idea what soundcard, modem, or video card stuff she has. SO if we have to redo the whole windows how would we find that out being that we cant get into the MY COMPUTER properties to see it???? I hope someone can please lead us in the right direction cause she is freaking out. Is there another way we can get that file back in there besides wiping it out and redoing it?
Any ideas would be helpful thank you in advance.

HHmmm......... Your preety much upstream without a paddel..lol. What you should do is just do a reinstall of 98. I mean, dont reformat, just do a Windows installation right over your current Windows setup. Now, if files are still missing when you do a reinstall, then click start, run, then type SFC. this is the windows file checker. If all else fails, then just reformatt and do a reinstall.

Yes I tried the reinstall over top of her windows. I think she has windows 98 and the disk we are using is windows 98 2nd Edition. Does that make a difference? Also when we tried to do it overtop thats when it said the error too. any ideas? Thank you.. I dont wanna leave her up creek without a paddle LOL

Those files that she deleted are not windows files. I suspect that she had (has?) a virus and the anti-virus program deleted them.
Have her download and run EXEFIX08

That should make it possible for her to open applications again.

Hey Peeki,
Refer the following link. It is from another forum. Someone says that mpldfg.exe is abackdoor trojan virus.

He has suggested to do some registry editing.
For Norten.exe - Refer the following link from this forum.
