Hi,
I installed Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition today (I was using XP...). Everything seems to be ok but i cannot download any of the windows update stuff. The download window appears but it does not work i think. Because of that i cannot update my windows. I also cannot download codes and texts. So i cannot use my main language's letters. I think i've found the problem. while installing setup couldnt copy some
files from my win98se cd. And i remember that some of those files were
about java classes. So those files are missing on my system. But i think
windows update window doesnt work properly because of the missing java stuff.
Now i have a new win98se cd. How am i going to copy those missing files? Or do i have to reinstall win98se again?
Waiting for a reply.. thank you very much...

First of all, make sure that in Explorer, Under Internet Options, Advanced Tab, that you have JIT for Virtual Machine (enabled)
checked. You are missing the updated java compiler which can be gotten from the update site. The update site has a problem...when you click on product updates, it does not automatically respond sometimes. To get around this, I click on the last link on the page and then close it. This seems to wake something up...then, I click on the product updates again and this time...after waiting what seems like a minute...up comes a small download program which you have to allow on your computer so that the updater can figure out which updates you need. Say yes to the updater and then it will work ok. I know, bummer...for some reason, MS has had this problem with the update site for what seems like forever!
I understand that Win 98 will no longer be supported here, really soon...so make sure you get those updates quickly, they may disappear from the Win Update site!
