Subject: Help, please with display OS: WIN 98CPU/Ram: AMD K6 3DModel/Manufacturer: Compaq Presario 5190 |
Comment: hello Yes, RedOrb, its me Shorty, you were probably waiting on this..lol I formatted the computer and the display settings are at 16 colors and 480 x 800 and no way to change it. I tried to look up info at HP/Compaq and couldnt find the info, the only things listed in Device manger are: Standard PCI graphics adapter and whatever monitor is installed (I tried a couple of different ones) Tried updating drivers, but get the "Its already installed" message. Any ideas? Suggestions? I could use your (or anyones) help,. please. Thanks

Reply: (edit)Usually it's a graphics driver problem (monitors don't usually affect anything much). Try downloading the correct driver, then uninstall the existing one and reboot before installing the new one. DerekW

Reply: (edit)hi and a big Thank you to those who replied. I found the info I needed using Everest, great program! Told me exactly what was on my computer. Belarc gave limited info, which is what I used originally. Thanks for your help, much appreciated! and to Mr. Good God.... Yes, I did go there...before you made your "Good God" remark. If you read my post correctly, you would have seen that I said my problem was in finding out "Which" driver to install.... because of not being able to find out what card was installed...but I got it from the nice person who first replied and I thank him very much for his reply. (and my apologies to those who read this nonsense) shorty

Reply: (edit)Yes, I prefer Everest (or Aida32) to Belarc because it gives hardware information itself rather than taking info from the drivers that happen to be installed, which could be wrong. Glad to hear you sorted it and thx for popping back. Don't mind Street1 he was only being playful and he did provide a link. DerekW

Reply: (edit)hiya guys just wanted to say hiya and again to say thanks to you all. Street, I do owe an apology to you, I dont want to make excuses, but I think I failed in noticing the sense of humor because of being all wound up with the issue I was dealing with. But anyway...just saying hi and wishing you all a great weekend! shorty
