I recently downloaded some movie clips of Xenosaga: Episode II (a videogame). I've also recently installed the DivX player. Everything was playing rather fine yesterday, however, I come on this morning, attempt to play a Xenosaga file in DivX, it says "illegal operation" then closes. I get it back up, try to load the file again, an error message pops up, saying that there's likely something wrong with my DirectX file. Well, I know it's not the DirectX, because I re-installed the latest version, and it still says the same thing.

I even tried playing the files in winamp movie mode, however, after it was finished, it left a permenant marking on my desktop where the winamp equalizer should have been. Basically, the spot shows whatever comes in front of it. For example, if I closed the internet, this webpage would be seen in the spot. That little spot doesn't go away until I reboot or shut down my PC.

So, there are two problems right there. I'd like to fix the DivX problem mainly. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Winamp movie mode is a memory hog and is clearly NOT the choice to play videos. I'd prefer using WMP, DivX, Quick Time, Real Player depending on the file to be played.

There could be a problem with the file itself. try downloading it again. Look at the download page if a particular s/w to play the file is suggested. Now a days site owners do, considering the number of codecs and encoding s/w that are available...not just players !

Good Luck and Happy Computing,
