Subject: help me to solve my modem problem
Comment:

I have win98 OP on my pc, my modem used to work fine before, but recently after I get on internet a very short time, my modem always is disconnected, and then this message comes up:
"hardware access layer Vxd call service failure" and then another window "Data pump error". Please tell me how to fix this problem.

Thanks, E.
Yes, I have tried many times to reinstall both OP and the driver of modem, but everytime after reinstallation, it can only work for a very short time, then the same problem happens again. Please help me to find the reason.

Uninstall any programs that are modem related in add/remove programs. Then uninstall the drivers from within "safe mode". Turn off the pc, remove the card.

Boot in safe mode & make sure all the drivers are gone.

Turn off the PC, re-install the card and go from there.

If it still won't work right, you probably have a modem problem.

Good luck!

Thanks, DaveM,
I have followed your instruction to do, but the same problem still exists, and I see this messgae "hardware layer access Vxd
unable to initialize the modem".

I open Control Panel and click modem icon, then perform the diagnose, sometines the communication is OK, but sometimes it tell me "opencomm". Don't know what's hell going on?

Is this a hardware or software problem? Help me.
