Compaq Presario 5bw120 Windows 98...600MHZ intel celeron from 2000'
==================
I'm posting for a friend.
Her system is behaving as if she has a Trojan Horse Virus and I'm clueless how to help her get rid of this.
We followed the steps here:
http://www.overclockinghq.com/articles/junkware1.phpWhen I had COOLWEBSEARCH, I used these steps to rid the spyware. She is going through the steps, but everytime she reboots and runs LavaSoft's Ad-Aware, it finds Virtumundo.
Anyone have any information on what will help?
We are using Ad-Aware, AVG by Grisoft and CWShredder and having no luck.
Thanks

- Her system is behaving as if she has a Trojan Horse Virus -
What does that mean?
Virtumundo seems to be a data miner (and maybe popups?) - not exactly a trojan.
There's an information page here (for whatever that may be worth)
PestPatrol has some manual instructions and more info - it should be noted:
Reasons for Retention
"Modifies LSP Stack by inserting additional refernced code without permission. Improper removal can result in lost internet connection."
What that means is removal can mess up your internet connection - LSPFix is usually recommended, if that's the case
Tech Support: "I need you to boot the computer."
Customer: THUMP! Pause. "No, that didn't help."

I am having problems here...not understanding much of this..I have run many things to try and fix my problem but nothing works and my system is so slow! I keep getting Virtumundo on ad aware, my system freezes, I get error messages I cannot shut down properly, IE stops responding when online., I cannot use or uninstall many programs! I did a adaware scan MANY times, Spybot, CDWshredder, what else can I do?

It really is *preferable* to start a new post, but I would ask if the instructions from the PestPatrol link were helpful?
Are you running 98?
Stubborn infections may need you to run the Anti spyware apps in safe mode. Also, there's HiJackThis!, and a place to have the results analyzed
