i'm getting a verry odd problem with the "winoldap " what ever that is . ive reada few things to know that it seams to be built in to windows operating systems ,. but i still dont know why it is doing this to me ,
ok here is the problem,I'm, running win98se
ok so i log on to my comp and goabout my business eather surfing or chating usily , then after about say 10-20 mins go past and my cpu begins to spike
i run nortin system tools so i see most of the trafic going on in my comp any ways the cpu spikes every 10-15 seconds causing all internet trafic to come to a halt . when this is going on i loose compleat controll of my comp "at least for each spike" the only way i found out what it was "winoldap" was by running "netstat -a" to see what is acessing the net , when it is spiking every thing gets soo bogged down that for some reason i can open the task maneger and there it is "winoldap " it only runns for the time of the spike " so you see im at a loss to fix the problem, can you please help
thank you jjbeck

Sorry, not an answer, a question.
I've seen this term "spike" before but haven't a clue what it means. Can you educate me please "jj, beck"?
Thanks
Derek

... one more thing. Have you had a look through Google? There are a lot of hits if you type in winoldap.

I did some searching on it and get conflicting information. I don't have that file on my win98SE system. I think it would be a good idea to check for Trojans.

I don't really have a solution either, but it's been my experience that Norton anything is a resource hog. It could be the software you're using to diagnose the problem is actually part of the problem.

Can't explain the reason why you are getting the message, but from what I have seen you might look at Monitor Drivers.
I can testify that Norton can be a real resource hog though. It has stopped so many virus attacks before they happen though that I can't imagine goin without it.
IMHO
