I have been having lots of problems with this computer and don't know how to fix them. The store I bought it from has gone out of business, so I'm hoping to get some help here.
My system is a AMD K6 300 with two 3 gig hard drives, a 32 spin CD ROM, a CD writer, a scanner. I have a T1 dedicated connection to the Internet. I have Windows 98, IE 5, MS Office 97 and a lot of other software. It has been giving me lots of problems lately.
The first thing is that the scanner won't work. I get this message: TWAIN error. (T015) Unable to find the TWAIN source manager (TWAIN.DLL). Please copy the TWAIN.DLL file from your source disk to your Windows folder. (T039)My CD writer won't work either. I don't remember the message off hand.
My system freezes up quite often. I also get the Blue Screen of Death a lot. Message Fatal Error in MSScan, something about a vxd ?. Sorry I don't know the exact message right now.
I have formatted both drives twice since these problems started. I have reinstalled all the drivers. I have a lot more software that I am afraid to install because of these problems.
I am very frustrated with this whole thing. Please can someone please help me?

If you are looking for that TWAIN.DLL file, I mean if you don't have the file on your copmuter, I know a site where you can download just about ANY DLL file. It is: http://solo.abac.com/dllarchive/index.html
I hope it can help you. I am unable to help on any of the other problems, I'm sorry about that, but if you are looking for a DLL file, then this is the place to go.

After you do the restore do you start loading all your software back on immediately or do you run it for a while just with the factory software? If you run it for a while without adding software and it does ok then start adding the software nack one title at a time and testing the system after each install. Run it for a day or so and see if all goes well. If it does then add the next title and check out the system. Test your scanner after you add each title.
You didn't mention if the pc was a clone or a brand name. If it's a brand name was the burner in it new or was it added later?
As for the system freezes - what do your resources show? (Right click My Computer, click Properties, click the Performance tab) Check this when you first boot up. How much memory do you have? The resources shows what percentage of that memory is free. At first boot it should be around eighty percent if not higher. If it is low then see how much stuff is in the taskbar next to the clock. If there are quite a few icons there then close some of them down.
That'll get you started. If you don't get some of the problems worked out in a couple of days repost. I'm outta town for a couple of days but I'll check back.

I think the scanner is causing a lot of these problems, or rather it is not installed correctly. The missing DLL file and VXD file tend to indicate this. The VXD file relates to your scanner in the SYSTEM.INI file that is loaded when you start Windows. I think if you can get a decent working installation for the scanner then a lot of these problems will vanish. The best way to install, is to let Windows 98 recognise it and then provide the disks upon request. What type of scanner are you using?

if u could let me know what is with the VXD, copy it down next time it happen. eg. MOTVCD.VXD or whatever and I might be able to find it for you.

Thank you to everyone who replied.
I will try the suggestions and hope I have some luck.
I copied down the error messages I keep getting. They are as follows:
A fatal exception has occurred at 0028C15494EC in VXD MCSCAN32(01) AND 000194BC. The current appplication will be terminated.
A fatal exception 0D has occurred at 0846:013F47FB
A fatal exception has occurred at 0028:C0251C93 in VXD VXDLDR (08) and 00000EBF
My scanner is an ACER Prism 310P. When installing it I did let Windows try to detect it, but had to install via New Hardware wizard in the Control Panel. Should I remove it and try again?
I have been checking my resources and removing icons from the task bar after boot up. It doesn't seem to help. The resources show from 83% to 85% free. Is there some way I can determine what is using up the resources?
My PC is a clone and the CD writer was installed a few months after purchase. It is a Sony product. Should I go to the Sony site and download more recent drivers?
Thank you for all replies.

I have windows95 and I can't install programs from a CD or run certain programs I get the message "Arequired DLL file, W32SKRNL.DLL was not found" Where can I download a program to fix this problem? PLEASE HELP!

I have seen this blue screen so many times in the last two weeks it hurts!!
The application that is causing the problem is McAfee Antivirus. The msscanVXD error is stopped once you remove McAfee. If you re-install the program it works great but as soon as you download the update DAT's from the internet and install them it goes all to hell again. I suspect a that the problem will be solved next time McAfee releases a Super DAT that updates the scan engine. Hope this is helpful.
