Comment:

I need to get notepad.exe back on my system. I think it went when I had a virus and now I can't open any notepad documents! I have tried to see if it on Windows/Office CDs but isn't on either and have tried looking for a download on the net but can't find it.
What should I do?

Well I looked in add/remove programs and then windows components. I thought it would have been there, but all I see is Word Pad, not Notepad.

I have it on my computer, so if you like, you can email me at TraceD123@hotmail.com and I can send it to you.

"start" "run" in run box type SFC click "OK"
then when it opens the system file checker
click on "extract one file from installation disk" then in the dialog box type NOTEPAD.exe
and click on start it will ask you if you want to backup the current file select "skip"
"it may ask for the windows 98 CD if it does just put it in the CD drive or select restore from C:\windows\options\cabs and click on "OK" and it will restore the file for you

Reply:

search Google for "Metapad".
Download it.
Extract the Metapad.exe to C:\Windows. Rename Notepad.exe Notepad.old.
Rename Metapad.exe Notepad.exe.
You now have a much better Notepad that can open any size files.

About Metapad

Download Metapad 3.5
